Let search engines find your site

Last updated

A new Locally 360 site starts hidden from search engines. When it’s ready, open Search and security and turn on Let search engines find this site. Your live pages republish with the change on their own.

Before you start

Turn it on once this site is the one you want people to find. While it’s still on its temporary address, turning it on can put that address into search results beside your existing website. So if you’re moving from another site, connect your own domain first.

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, open Search and security. In the editor, the Change link beside “Search engines are asked not to list this site” goes there too.
  2. Under Search engines, turn on Let search engines find this site.

What happens next

If your site is live, your live pages republish with the change. Page edits you haven’t published stay as drafts. If you haven’t published yet, it takes effect with your first publish.

Your site’s sitemap is then listed in its robots.txt, so search engines can see every page. Each page already carries its title, description and the business details search engines read.

Questions

Will my site show up on Google straight away?

Not straight away. Turning this on lets search engines list your site, and they visit on their own schedule. Nobody can honestly tell you where a site will rank, so Locally 360 doesn't promise it.

Can I hide one page from search?

Yes. In the editor, open the page's Search & sharing, tick Hide from search, then save and publish.

Does Locally 360 send my sitemap to Google?

No. Your sitemap is listed in your site's robots.txt once search engines may find the site. To use Google Search Console, paste its code into Google Verification in your Business profile, then publish.
